The idea didn’t even truly exist in the Modern Church until the 1830’s, when John Darby of the Plymouth Brethren started preaching about a pre-tribulation rapture he heard prophesied from the vision of a young Scottish girl. Darby influenced a visiting pastor from America named James Scofield and a new dispensational prophesy was born along with the famous Scofield Study Bible.
